Kaela Redd CEO and Co-Founder of KUUMBa. Kaela is a highly motivated Senior at Richard T. Crane Medical Preparatory High School with a successful academic record, augmented by professional and practical work experiences in the medical field. Kaela’s academic honors and distinctions include Honor Roll/Principals Scholar from grade school and continuing; U.S. Presidential Scholar, Class of 2013; High School Freshman Class Rank of number 1, and National Honor Society Inductee, Class of 2016. In 2015 and 2016, Kaela served a high school internship with Rush Hospital as a Student Instructor in the Mini Medical School Program. In this position Kaela assisted in developing grade school students into future leaders of medicine by facilitating classroom activities and projects focusing on anatomy, structure and function of body and organ systems. In 2016, Kaela served a dual internship in the Rush University Medical Center’s, Medical Home Network (MHN) Department as a Patient Navigator where she worked as a liaison between patients and social workers, gathering pertinent patient information to assess current health, psychological, and economic needs. In each internship, Kaela received accolades from staff for her professionalism and commitment to patients and students. Kaela developed and co-founded Kuumba to inspire and influence change, and also to help youth to rise up and become the leaders that live within them. Kaela Redd consistently demonstrates exceptional leadership skills; she is an inclusive team player focused on achieving goals and exceeding expectations. Kaela’s ultimate goals are to pursue a career in the medical field and to organize communities to effectuate positive change.
Sandra Ramirez is the CFO and Co-Founder of KUUMBA. Sandra is a Senior at RTC Med Prep and has been an active leader in her high school. She has been captain of the soccer team for 3 years and a tutor for STEM courses. She is also a member of Senior Council, NHS, and HOSA (EMT nationals qualifier). She has also interned, for 2 summers, in RUSH's ER, Telemetry unit, and Mini-Medical Program.
Ashley Toralva CKO and Co-Founder of KUUMBA. As CKO Ashley is responsible for overseeing knowledge management within an organization. Ashley is a Senior at RTC Med Prep. She is a member of Senior Council, National Honors society, HOSA and took part in a summer internship at Rush Oak Park Hospital in the 6W. She has also done volunteer work that included Mini Medical School, helping set up and actually participating in a polar plunge, she has helped with a garden build and a playground build as well.
